Last July, within the context of the 10th anniversary of Tamatumani, a team of the Association minière du Québec travelled to the Raglan Mine site in the company of Stéphane Modat, chef of the restaurants at The Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, Québec City.

In addition to visiting the site and learning more about Inuit culture and traditions, Modat met the person who will be his teammate for a prestigious gastronomic event at The Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.  

Indeed, during his visit, Stéphane Modat met Masta Tuckatuck, a Raglan Mine employee and student of professional cooking in Inukjuak. Modat and Tuckatuck prepared a meal blending gastronomy and traditions for the Raglan Mine employees. Shortly after, Tuckatuck received an invitation from Modat to join him in Québec City and cook together in the context of the event "À la rencontre des grands chefs" on August 25 and 26, 2018.

"À la rencontre des grands chefs"

On August 25 and 26, 2018, Québec City will welcome the event “À la rencontre des grands chefs” for the second consecutive year. On this occasion, eleven renowned chefs from the Québec City region are matched with eleven chefs from Quebec’s Aboriginal Nations to discover Aboriginal gastronomy and prepare new culinary creations. Tasting stations are set up at The Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, where participants can discover and indulge on an interesting combination of gastronomy and traditions, be inspired by them and learn more about Aboriginal culture.

As mentioned on its Facebook page, this rallying event aims to build bridges between Aboriginals and non-Native communities through gastronomy. The experience and transfer of knowledge between the Aboriginal Peoples and the chefs encourage openness and mutual respect.
